The area received an inch to two inches on snow during the weekend storm. Some of the area was groomed today. The Inner Core runs with the exception of Loose Moose were groomed as were Skateaway and Skywalker. Moonrunner on out to Rose Creek Saddle still retained a good track with an inch or more of new snow on the hard surface below. Elderberry at this advanced point in the season contains too many bare areas, while The Eagle Run did not require treatment. The gate at the main entrance was closed to prohibit some misguided motorized users from damaging the snow cover left.
Snow cover is getting threadbare on parts of the inner core, but snow cover out Skywalker-Moonrunner and much of the Twisted Klister snowshoe trail system still retains in excess of two feet of packed snow. There are a few bare or thinning areas but these are small. Unless we receive a quite large snowfall, grooming has likely ended for the season. However, there is plenty of good snowshoeing and skiing on the higher trails. Since we are all confined to quarters and socially distanced, the outdoors is the one place that none of the medical authorities have declared unhealthy. You may want to extend your ski or snowshoe season either on the higher runs at Fourth of July or up off Fernan Saddle where sizable snow packs will persist well into Spring.
