Message
Here it is Saturday
morning after the Big Feast. I was getting ready to write
the almost annual snow dance ritual and meditation
ceremony with a few new steps and chants. Lo and behold
the skies opened up and a little snow has fallen. And the
ski resorts are thinking of opening, if not this weekend
just in a few days! I have continued my compulsive
gardening through November, which is good since my weed
control this year was nonexistent. On Thanksgiving I was
walking around in 50-degree temperatures. Oh me of little
faith. I was actually hoping to lead the Nordic club in
the new snow dance routine. Could it be the snow gods and
fairies were wary?
Chic Burge or the Spokane Mountaineers gave an excellent
presentation using slides of scenic and interesting areas
nearby that would be fun to play in-a quote
from Chic. Chic has traveled these areas many times and
in different seasons to offer a great pictorial. Some of
the areas pictured were Cabinets, Washington Scablands,
Oregon, Selkirks, etc. If you want more information
regarding these areas stop by Cameral Corral where Chic
works and he would be glad to assist in trip preparation.
Thank you Chic for opening up the Nordic Club season for
us.
There were several new faces at our last meeting, which
is always great. We missed many of the faithful and hope
you will join us at the next meeting.
Time to go out and clean up the carport since it is
warming up and is almost raining. Hmmm
Id
better work on a few of those steps for that snow dance
after all. You might want to wear those dancing shoes or
ski boots to the next meeting.
December
8 Meeting
Next topic will be everything you wanted to know about
snowshoes, clothing and more. Justin Cope from Fitness
Fanatics will be offering his expertise at the next club
meeting, Tuesday, December 7.
We Love Cookies
Yes sirree it is time for the annual cookie exchange. If
you want to have plenty of good things to eat and treats
to take to holiday parties, this is the ticket to avoid
wear and tear in the kitchen. Bring at least two-dozen
cookies to exchange with others in the club in December.
More cookies are always better to share with the culinary
impaired folks and also to start the cache for the
highway department (they plow the 4th of July parking lot
for us) and upcoming free ski day. Martha S. cant
help us out this year due to circumstances beyond her
stockbrokers control.
Trips,
Trips, Trips
Rumor has it that some overnight trips are in the making.
Also some snowshoe day trips are being planned. Bring
your ideas for day trips, cross country or snowshoe, and
a signup sheet to the next meeting. All it takes is a
place to meet, a destination and a carpool of drivers.
Note: The club agreed that there would be the following
rules for overnight trips. Participants need to put up
100% of the cost of trip up front to the organizer. If
someone cannot go, it is up to them to find a replacement
and to arrange for the replacement to repay them their
deposit. Organizers are NOT responsible for finding
replacements. If a replacement cannot be found, the
participant forfeits his/her entire deposit.
Choice of accommodations is up to the organizer. If
someone wants special accommodations, that person must
make his/her own arrangements.
Free
Ski Day
January 8 will be the free ski and snowshoe day at 4th of
July pass and other areas around Idaho parks and ski
areas. People will not have to have a park n ski pass to
use 4th of July that day. This is an opportunity to
spread the good news about the Nordic Club and we like to
have refreshments and information regarding the club at
the ski hut. A sheet will be available at the next
meeting to volunteer. This is a great way to meet people
and encourage membership in the club. We plan to sell
club memberships and ski n park passes.
Trail
Work
Thanks to those of you who braved the sunshine and helped
with trail work October 10th. Eydie, Nancy and Don were
swamp drainers, Carl and Geoff post setters and Carol,
Robert, Howard and Jackie with grandson Anthony were
drain installers. We cannot forget Glen the chisel man
(door now works!). Thanks!!!
Last
Call
Panhandle Nordic Club dues need to be paid by the Jan. 4
meeting to stay on the mailing list and to receive the
newsletter and receive special privileges. Well
think of something. Actually this helps support the club
and keeps you informed of club events. In the past we
have had special offers for members for discounted Sea
Kayak Adventure trips. And the summer hike schedule is
part of the deal. Plus the price is right!
