Pandhandle Nordic Club Notes for February

Here’s what’s happening. We’ve had some schedule changes to accommodate the annual Best Hand Fun Ski (poker is a naughty word in the state of Idaho-don’t repeat it)

Tuesday, Feb. 7—club meeting featuring Rich Landers. Need more be said how great this will be. He is the outdoor editor for many years with the Spokesman Review and is the author of 101 Best Hikes in the Inland Northwest. Rich will be presenting his cross country ski tour of Finland - 270 miles in 7 days from border to border (Sweden to Russia or visa versa) with 12 others of different nationalities.

Several of our club members are his devotees and have done many if not all his suggested hikes. Please do not embarrass yourself or Rich by inappropriate adulation and screaming. Act your age!

Sunday, Feb.19—Rock Soup Party at 4th of July. We all love this event. Jackie (664-4852) is organizing this and will be our chef. She needs help with stirring the soup and making party favors. Plus you need to bring something to throw in the pot plus a side dish or appetizer. Also you will be required to ski the loop or a snow shoe so you can eat more and not feel guilty.

Sunday, Feb. 26Best Hand Fun Ski and Snowshoe. After weeks of anguish we have found a way to put on our annual fund raiser and meet the requirements of having liability insurance. So don’t break a leg. This will be our 15th year. Rain, snow or not, sleet, hurricanes the Poker Ski will go on.

And we need your help (yes that means you) to hand out cards, sign up folks, serve goodies, pass out flyers and lastly get prizes. Every year I beg you to get prizes but this year I won’t—JUST DO IT! This is your chance to practice those assertiveness training classes you attended or should have. If you are a shrinking violet and just can’t, there are alternatives. Make something, put a basket together, shop lift—what about some of those lousy Christmas presents you have already stuck in the back closet and will regift next year. Bring items to the next ski meeting so we can start organizing. There is also a list of past donors to choose from. It takes a whole ski and snowshoe club to run a fundraiser.

Notes

--we need new officers. Find out at the Feb. meeting who is jumping off and how you can be of service.

--we miss our old members or I mean the young at heart. Many of our long time members have not joined and we want you back. Is it something I said? I didn’t mean it. Don’t miss out on all the fun we are having…………..
