NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER
November 2004
Presidents Message
I believe we need to be proactive and inform our friends
and neighbors about
what the Panhandle Nordic Club can do for them. I promise
to deliver on all my
promises. Check out our website to see my plan. Oh I
forgot we dont have a
website. That bothers me.
Panhandle
Ski Club will:
- Cure the winter blues-no more
SAD (seasonal affective disorder)
- Provide cookies at numerous
events
- Have a balanced budget-no more
dipping into the treasury so we can fund
future projects. Club dues will not be raised!
- Provide informative meetings
to expand your winter consciousness
- Have day and weekend trips
with a lot of great people
- Keep us safe from those who
disrespect cross country trails
- Gifts for everyone at this
years Poker Ski
- And Fun, Fun, Fun and more
Fun.
Also I will do my best to fulfill my duty as your
President. If I had an opponent, I know they
would not keep their word and dont have the
right stuff to guide us through the
2005 ski season. So come show your support at our
first meeting. Due to the elections we will meet
on the second Tuesday, November 9, 7:00 PM
at Fernan Ranger Station. Subsequent meetings
will be on the first Tuesday of each month.
Speaking of elections, do you know how the
candidates you support stand on country skiing
and snowshoeing? Check our website out to find
out. Oh yeah, I forgot we dont have one!
Check out the Missoula Nordic Club to see what
they are doing. www.missoulanordic.org

November 9 Meeting:Our guest speaker will be Chic Burge
of Camera Corral and Spokane
Mountaineers who will give us a pictorial
presentation of local areas that offer
hiking, back country/cross country skiing and
snow shoeing. Areas included in
the presentation are Warm Springs Indian
Reservation in Oregon, Cabinet Mountain
Wilderness in Montana, Selkirk Mountains,
Washington Scablands and areas
along the Idaho and Montana border. Chic
suggested that you bring a notebook
and maps of these areas and a marker to highlight
places you would like to check
out. Chics presentation will offer more
hiking and skiing possibilities for the club.
Snow
Shoers
The Panhandle Nordic Club wants to develop more
of a snowshoeing program.
Please invite your friends who are interested in
snowshoeing. We are planning a
presentation on equipment and want to offer day
trips this season.
Ski
Trips/Lessons
We would like to offer a variety of day and
weekend trips. Be thinking about trips
you would like to go on and possibly coordinate.
Also the Nordic Club Board has discussed offering
ski lessons to all ages and having ski equipment
available.
Save your old equipment that could be used on a
loan basis. A tentative schedule of events will
be published in the next newsletter to help
coordinate Nordic Club events.
Summer
Hiking
This summer the Nordic Club offered a variety of
hikes led by club members.
If you have pictures please give them to Jackie
Beery, club historian to put in our
scrapbook.
